The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) recently announced the approval of 1.2 GHz of bandwidth in the 6GHz band (5,925 to 7,125 MHz) as a frequency for unlicensed broadband communications, including next-generation Wi-Fi. This makes Korea the second country in the world (after the United States) to supply the 6 GHz band, and the first in 16 years to supply new Wi-Fi frequencies.
Dr. Juhyung Son, a Wilus expert in Wi-Fi, participated in the study group convened by MSIT to analyze the opening of the 6 GHz frequency band in Korea. In his study group activities, he conducted technical analysis of unlicensed spectrum regulation in major countries, and made detailed technological and regulatory suggestions.
Wilus is pleased to have played a role in this major step forward for telecommunications in Korea.
Wilus standards experts Dr. Juhyung Son and Minseok Noh attended the Global ICT Standards Conference 2020 held by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) on October 14 and 16, 2020, where they presented on SEP-centered R&D strategy and trends in Wi-Fi 7 standardization. The full titles of the sessions and a link with further information can be found below.
Session C3. SEP-centered R&D, "Development on NR based 5G Evolution Standards"
Session F2. Market-centered de facto standard, "7th Generation Wi-Fi technology and standardization trends"
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) designated Wilus as an Inno-Biz on July 8, 2020, in recognition of its excellence in R&D and innovation.
The Inno-Biz program recognizes innovative SMEs that have leveraged technological advances to achieve competitiveness in the market. It is intended to promote SMEs that can drive future growth based on internal R&D and technological advantages.
