As development of the 5G standard comes to an end, observers are beginning to look at the patent landscape. Wilus Inc., along with other major tech firms, was featured in a December 1st, 2019 article in Korean Economics (한국경제) about Korea’s position in 5G patents.
According to the article, which quotes IP consultancy IPlytics, Korea ranks second in 5G patent families, after China. Wilus Inc. has participated continuously in 5G Based NR Unlicensed technology standardization, making contributions at an unprecedented rate for an SME. As of September 2019, Wilus owns 41 5G technology patents.

Dr. Jin Sam Kwak, CEO of Wilus, participated in the Cognitive Radio technology workshop 2019 hosted by the The Journal of Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science on November 8, 2019. Dr. Kwak introduced the LTE/NR-based unlicensed technology standard trends and LAA technologies.

Wilus participated in the GICS 2019 Global ICT standards conference on October 18th, 2019. During the GICS conference hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Wilus shared their LAA technology research outputs. Wilus' Licensed-Assisted Access (LAA) using LTE technology has been selected as outstanding technology by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
