WILUS ENFORCES Wi-Fi 6 PATENT AGAINST AMAZON
SEOUL, November 5, 2026: Wilus has taken legal action against Amazon for infringing a European Patent essential to the Wi-Fi 6 standard.
The South Korean R&D lab filed the patent infringement complaint at the Munich I Regional Court on 23 October. This followed efforts to secure an amicable resolution with Amazon that began back in 2022.
The patent-in-suit was successfully enforced by Wilus in a previous case against ASUS, resulting in a Germany-wide injunction. That dispute was resolved with ASUS taking a license to the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode patent pool earlier this year.
Other companies, including Cisco, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HP Inc., Lenovo, LG Electronics, Microsoft, Samsung and Sony, have all obtained the right to use Wilus’ patented Wi-Fi technologies through either the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode pool, its predecessor Wi-Fi 6 pool, or a bilateral license with Wilus on FRAND terms.
“We always seek to reach licensing agreements without litigation, but maintaining a level playing field requires us to act when a company of Amazon’s size and scope fails to obtain rights that we have licensed so widely to the industry,” says Wilus founder and CEO Jin Sam Kwak. “The royalties generated by our SEP portfolios, including through the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode pool, are critical to supporting our ongoing R&D activities in wireless technologies.”
