ASUS Takes License to Wilus Wi-Fi Seps in Sisvel Pool Deal

SEOUL, May 19: ASUS has obtained a license to Wilus’ portfolio of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 standard essential patents through a recent agreement with the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode patent pool.

This development brings an end to relevant litigation that had been pending between Wilus and ASUS and underscores Wilus’ commitment to amicable resolutions, with legal action as a last resort.

Litigation between Wilus and Askey, a subsidiary of ASUS, remains ongoing. Wilus believes that this dispute can be resolved through Askey’s agreement to a bilateral license with Wilus or a Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode pool license.

ASUS joins Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Huawei, Panasonic, Philips, Sony Group Corporation and ZTE as Wi-Fi Multimode pool licensees. The predecessor Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool completed deals with more than 40 companies, including Acer, Cisco, HP and Netgear. Wilus has also announced bilateral Wi-Fi 6 agreements with Lenovo and LG Electronics.

Wilus was one of the founding licensors of the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool and continues to participate actively in the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode program.

“We are pleased that our litigation with ASUS has ended in a pool license and I would like to thank the Sisvel Team for helping to resolve this dispute,” says Wilus founder and CEO Dr. Jin Sam Kwak. “Litigation is never our preferred path. It is always particularly hard for an independent R&D company like Wilus. We appreciate the support of Bird & Bird and Ampersand throughout this process. As more leading companies recognize the value of our Wi-Fi innovations, we remain committed to licensing our SEP portfolio to the industry on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.”
